I've been writing a bunch of threads on MIUI V6 lately, most of it with new comers in mind, so today I've decided to continue writing one, probably the last one I'm writing on MIUI V6 as I'm running out of ideas to write about V6.
Howdy folks,
Welcome to MIUI 6, I'm Sheriff Penguin an' I'm here to teach yer all 'bout the mysteries that yer might be facin' since V6 ain't that similar to V5, an' some changes need gettin' used to. I've got 9 today for yer to learn 'bout. Let cut the chase an' go straight to the main point now, shall we?
Mystery Number 1: Disappearance o' Mi Cloud
Now some o' yer might feel somethings amiss an' then realised that MiCloud ain't there anymore. Don't freak out, it's still there, just tucked underneath another app, namely Mi Account.
Mystery Number 2: Menu Button Behaviour
Followin' the footsteps of Google, Menu Button is removed in MIUI 6 an' replaced by a Recents Button with 'em Menus accessible by pressin' the three dot button in system apps. What 'bout third party apps? Long press the Recents button then! If yer fancy the old style of tappin' once for Menu, yer can set it in Settings, just remember to change the Long Press Button behaviour the other way round. Clear?
Mystery Number 3: Universal Search?
One's easy, swipe up on your homescreen an' Voila!
Mystery Number 4: Recents Icon an' Card View Switch
Open Recents, pinch with two fingers, that'll suffice. Inwards for Icon view, outwards for Card view. Easy, no?
Mystery Number 5: Long Missed Manual Mode
Manual Mode was missin' at the beginnin' o' time, now it staged a come back. Swipe left in Camera an' yer can see it.
Mystery Number 6: Immersive Statusbar
MIUI 6 promised an immersive status bar, but why yer ain't seein' it on third party apps? Simply 'cause 'em developers haven't change 'em app behaviour. System apps have it already. 'Course if yer want it, yer can use it with Xposed an' the guide can be found in the link below.
Mystery Number 7: Bug Logs an' Hardware Tests
To get 'em bug logs, dail *#*#284#*#* an' wait for a minute, then a log file will be made an' accessible at Explorer>MIUI>debug_log. The other way is to tap on CPU information under About Phone multiple times to generate a log. Similarly, tappin' Kernel version will bring up the Hardware Test, also accessible via dailing *#*#64663#*#*.
Mystery Number 8: Root Permission
Contrary to simply enabling it directly via Security in V5, root access permission dialogue only shows when the app asks for it, then only it'll show up in Root Permission under Permissions in Security. Also, there's a 25 second process before you can grant an app root access. There's a workaround, again using Xposed.
Mystery Number 9: Stable MIUI 6
I know yer all 've been waitin' a long time for Stable to come, I've got good news for yer all: It's Coming Really Soon!
Class dismissed. Ciao ciao.
Please leave a thought or two below and give a rating if you feel that this is good. Also, you can list down which topics you would like to learn of. Also, I would like to thank @meredithhan, @iyengar and my fellow comrades for their continuous support, without them I wouldn't be able to come so far. Thanks to all!
